Why “MacOS could not be installed on my computer”?

I purshased a Macbook Air 2020 few days ago, used it a few hours and I just thought to reset it and set-up again. Followed some tutorials, booted into recovery and wiped out the ssd. After that I went for New Install MacOS, few times I got an error “downloding installer information to the target volume failed”. Somehow I went far the continue page and the download started. After it’s download when it went for installation it showed me an error “MacOS could not be installed on your computer”. I restarted a few times but it was stuck in that boot. I tried multiple times downloading the installer but the error persists. And the usb boot permission is off too so I can’t boot from a usb. Now I have a messed up mac which is unuseful to me, and believe me I am sad. Would appreciate any help please.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Ok, this will involve using another apple computer that already has or is compatible to run Catalina. On that other computer, open the Apple Apps Store and download the Full Catalina Installer ( about 8.4 GB in size ). Once downloaded, do NOT let it install. There should be a new application is Applications folder called Catalina Installer or something by that name. Get a USB Flash Drive with 16 GB capacity and Empty. Use Disk Utilities >> Show all Devices and point it to the USB Drive. Format it as HFS+ and GUID partition. ** will perform the task and name it Untitled , leave it that name. Now open Terminal copy and past these instruction without Quotation marks

" sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled " . Terminal will require the password of that computer. Type it in but be aware it will be invisible. Let it do its thing. Could take 10 - 15 minutes. Once completed it will say Successful or Complete. This is a Bootable Installer of Catalina. The Catalina Installer in Application folder can be saved to external drive or deleted.

Now, on your malfunctioning MBA, boot in Internet Recovery Mode once again. Once in look along the Top for Utilities >> Security Options >> open it. There are two sections with Default options engaged. Change to first section to None. Second section Enable Booting from USB - External Drives. This will permit booting from the USB Installer that was just created.

Lastly, shutdown with the USB Installer attached. Reboot and Immediately hold Option key. Choose the USB Installer. It will load slowly. Once in Disk Utilities .>> Show All Devices and choose the Apple SSD xx and format APFS and GUID Partition. Back out of Disk Utilities and Install Catalina

An option, is connect to charger and have MBA as close to Router as possible. Startup MBA and Immediately hold Command + Option + R ( Internet Recovery Mode ). It will require you to connect to Router and input Password. Once in, Choose Disk Utilities >> Show ALL Devices >> Choose the upper most device usually marked Apple SSDxxx. Choose this device and then choose to Erase the disk. Make sure to Format as APFS and GUID (Journaled) Once done, back out of Disk Utilities and now choose Install macOS. This will take time as the Full Installer 8.4 GB Approx to download. It will start the installation automatically.

So, upon days of research I came to a conclusion that there is no other way you can boot your mac without Internet Recovery (In case the t2 chip security is turned on and you can’t turn it off).

You can try it with a different internet or maybe an Ethernet cable. If nothing works just return it back, or claim your apple warranty and get it done through Apple experts. I feel unlucky to be one with a faulty Macbook Air. As far I know, a non faulty device should do the installation on first try which has never been in my case. The best option would be to return it.

Don’t know if it’s right here but if you have your Macbook in hand and a connection you can drop an email so that I can guide you with the only option left. That is more of an active way and requires to be done quickly. Don’t knoe if that would work but there’s a chance it may succeed.
