eSIM issues dual sim

This one is a doozy.

i travel back and forth between USA and Canada frequently for work. Frequently enough that I needed to get a local Canadian area code for business when I am up there.

last week I called Verizon to ask about switching my service over to an eSIM as I was going to try and get a local physical sim on the Bell service network.

anyways, I was in Canada when I tried to activate the eSIM (told the Verizon rep this before the swap, and they said it was no issue). Activation went TERRIBLY. Activation happened on iOS 12.4. Service was so bad after the esim swap that I reverted back to physical sim. The physical sim was always in the phone through the whole

process.

after the swap back to the physical sim the service was even worse. 37/40 calls made in 4 days were dropped or couldn’t dial out.

I then proceeded to go get a Bell Esim which was added to the phone just fine however now both cellular plans have intermittent service issues. Trouble dialing out and dropped calls.

I wiped the phone. I restored the phone to a backup that was before this, I upgraded the iOS and the service has been constantly bad. Another thing that I noticed is that even when I’m connected to Wi-Fi, I’m not really connected. The phone will notify me many hours after an email or iMessage comes through.

any thoughts? Comments? Has this happened to anyone before?

the only thing I haven’t done yet is swap out the physical SIM card for a new one.

all the best!

I read your experience with DUAL eSIM (Physical and eSIM). I think the issue is not with Verizon (USA) or Bell (CA) service. I have been using eSIM and a Physical SIM with two different service providers since the very beginning. No issues. Service issues are not dependent upon the type of SIM. Its job is to ensure that it maintains the credentials to log your iPhone on to the cellular network.

Your eSIM and your Physical SIM service(s) have begun to perform poorly. I therefore believe that there is something else which is the issue. When you restored your iPhone to factory settings then did you try and check the iPhone's performance BEFORE you restored from backup? This would have informed you whether there is some corruption in your backup or not which was affecting the overall performance.

You appear to have tried the normal troubleshooting steps and the performance has not improved. I there recommend that you please contact ➔ Apple Support

hey Axel!

what you’ve said makes sense, however at each phase of the different wipes/restores I called both Verizon and Apple and checked the status of my phone on the network. In fact, One Apple rep pointed out (after he did an analysis of the passed two weeks) that my calls for the last 4 days looked suspect.

verizon had me running the typical speed tests (less than 1mb down and less than 0.05mb up). They also reset my

phone on the network numerous times. We also confirmed that the sim, imei etc matched up.

both Apple and Verizon both had me reset network settings numerous times.

in short (to answer your question) - yes, I checked the phone at each phase.

the apple rep thought it could have been some sort of software issue that was causing the phone to get confused between the esim that failed to activate and the physical sim that was used afterwards.

all The best!
