Chromecast not working after ios14 update

I use google chromecast for casting tv apps on my tv, smart tv and no smart tv (lol). Since ios14 it will not remember the chromecast device on either tv. Two different models and capabilities. I constantly have to reboot the chromecast device when I want to cast an app to either tv. Anybody else have this issue??

This was happening to me. I found this on another search for help, and it works. When I went to Local Network the apps that weren’t casting were turned off. Once turned on. It works! Hope this helps.

  1. On your iOS device’s home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy  Local Network. You’ll find a list of apps.
  3. Turn on Local Network Access for the app(s) you would like to cast from. This will allow permissions for Cast to discover local devices when casting.

Note: I think it is important to differentiate opinion from fact. The following is my research-based opinion:

My conclusion now is that it is NOT the iOS, but that recent changes at Google have had some unexpected results. Google finally retired Google Play Music in favor of YouTube Music which is a paid service. Early on, I uploaded a part of my then music library to Google Play, which was then transferred to YouTubeMusic when it became time to sunset Google Play. I quickly discovered my that I can stream songs that I own, but I cannot stream anything else without a monthly fee. It was at the same time that Chromecast stopped streaming from iOS. Here is the thing: iOS knows the devices are in my network. But they are unreachable. If this is a bug and not a feature as they say, then it is a Google problem. More specifically, I think is is a DRM issue. See the shot below. My RadioTunes app on iOS wants to stream. But the INDIVIDUAL devices are not visible.

Exposing the IP address has nothing to do with the issue. If that worked on a specific iPhone it is coincidental.

In my humble opinion, it may be iOS/music-app related. I generally use the collection of music apps from RadioTunes and it is those which no longer cast properly from iOS. BUT they DO work properly on my Android tablet.

IN ADDITION, the Sirius app works perfectly every time.

The last iOS update contained security strengthening measures. In my humble opinion, the RadioTunes software (and others with which readers here are having trouble) need a tweak to their iOS hook.

In the screen shots below taken on 4/14, RadioTunes wants to connect, but the room list won’t populate.

Sirius, however, works perfectly.

Today I sent an email to RadioTunes and will report back here.

The problem still exists.

I did a factory reset of all of my Chromecast devices, then added them back to my WiFi, all on the same ID. Next, I recreated my groups. The problem cleared, but returned the next day.

In the meantime, my Samsung (Android) tablet is working perfectly - even with also a blend of 2.4Mhz and 5Mhz - which was the case before. And the problem affects my Amazon Fire tablet as well.

I am guessing it will be a while before this problem clears up. (iOS update?)

I may order a cheap Chrome tablet in the meantime. It is irritating.
