Magic Mouse 2 pointer speed is still too slow at maximum "Tracking speed" setting

This question has been asked before in the community and I've never found a working answer.

Today is October 4, 2020, I'm using MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2).

I've tried what was suggested in one post, with running the Terminal commands

defaults read -g com.apple.mouse.scaling

and

defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling 5

or 10 or 99. The apparent mouse speed on the screen doesn't change.

Also, if I open System Preferences > Mouse, and change the Tracking speed slider, when I go back to the Terminal and run the "read" command again, it displays the default of "3" again.

Windows, Windows 10
