I erased my MacBook pro disk to do a factory reset.. On restart, disk, cannot reboot to get internet and reinstall osx. Just get question mark in a file icon on the screen. How would I reinstall osx from here?

If Recovery is not booting locally nor over the network (and older Macs lack that support), you will need to use another Mac to download the newest version of macOS supported by your Mac, build a bootable installer, and then boot that.
