Fans blowing and Mac slow performance: accountsd - accountsdaemon (CPU %%%%)

Hi,

CPU of accountsd more than ...% ?

If fans are going wild, out of the blue, intermittently, and if you see in activitymonitor.app "accountsd" taking up a lot of CPU, even more than your processor has got cores, try the following (this worked for me):

Accountsdaemon: a process connected to Internet Accounts

- Apple menu > system preferences > Internet Accounts >

uncheck all accounts (deactivate all accounts, do not delete them) except for Game Center

- Uncheck “Mail” at iCloud ;

…………………………………………………………

Sign out of Apple ID

Apple menu > System Preferences > Apple ID: overview “sign out”

(if 'spinning gear': ignore and shut down)

………………………………………………………

Shutdown computer and reset NVRAM (Non Volatile Random Access Memory: short term memory)

Restart and activate Internet Mail Accounts. Check behaviour in Activity Monitor ("system processes)

Make sure macOS is completely up to date. Apple released a new patch recently for Mojave which should fix this issue which came about from a bad combination of updates (security & safari updates being installed in the wrong order).

If you still have problems, then run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.
