My son's 6th gen iPad used to have iMessage and FaceTime. They're don't work now for some reason. He's not signed into them anymore. But when we try to sign in, we get "an error occurred during activation' message. Running software version 13.7. I've tried all the tips ad tricks from this site but in vain.

thanks for replying. Sadly, I’ve updated the iPad to 14.0.1 and I’m still getting the same error message. I really don’t get what’s happening! We’re signed into iCloud but can’t get imessage and FaceTime to work!
Did you do everything which was recommended in the link I provided?
Update the iPad to the current iPadOS 14.0.1.
