So on my Macbook Air, Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, have been constantly crashing or freezing or won't even open when I click on them. How do I fix this problem?

What version of Microsoft are we using?
Since you are running Mavericks or Yosemite which might not support Microsoft software whereas as high sierra will.
You could use pages, numbers and keynote instead and save as this files.
i noticed few of my later 64bit non-apple apps are limited while using Mojave compared to an early OSX.
Check with Microsoft on which versions are compatible with the Mac OS version you are running. I know that MS has changed to a subscription model, so you may need to update those apps.
