MacBook Pro not recognizing JVC TV as 1080p

I have a 28" JVC 1080p Television hooked up to my MacBook Pro for an external monitor. I am using an HDMI cable; I have tried going through a USB-C Hub and a USB-C to HDMI adapter with the same results. The MBP is not recognizing the TV as 1080p. It is recognizing it as 1366x768. If I scale the resolution to 1080p, the picture is grainy and text has a white halo. What gives? How do I convince my MPBP that the TV is 1080p native?

Are you using mirrored mode or extended desktop. You should be able to use extended desktop and then select the external display's native resolution.
