Gmail account in Apple Mail is not updating Inbox

For the past quarter I have not been able to receive new emails on my iPhone with my gmail account linked. I deleted the mailbox and added it anew - this solved the problem but only on the intial download. I am able send outgoing mails but no incoming mails allowed :( So I then manually added the incoming imap and outgoing smtp servers which still didn't work. So I checked my settings were set to iMap on Gmail via the browser - All good there. I updated iOS from 13 to 14.01 and that still didn't work. For the life of me I cannot figure this out. I tweeted Apple and Gmail with screen shots of my inbox from Apple mail and GMail so they could understand the issue I am trying to communicate and no solutions.

Is anyone else having this problem or knows what could be the issue? Did Google suddenly block Apple from accessing Gmail via Apple Mail app?
