Mail Starts and then Crashes

Mail was working fine. I changed my ISP login password and needed to update 1 mail user account with the new password. Now when I start mail, it appears to start up and then immediately fails. The only error message is "Mail quit unexpectedly. ... Ignore Report Reopen".

I click Report and see this in the report - Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)

Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000018

Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

This is on iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) running OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6.

Two days ago I again deleted my Comcast mailbox. After reload, seems to be working fine. Just hope it stays ok this time!

I just enabled y comcast account in Apple Mail and it works now. I expect it was a Comcast problem because I noticed the other day their interface had changed. Thanks for letting me know it now works.

The problem is specific to the account I set up for retrieving email from comcast/xfinity. The account has been working for years, but I recently changed the password on comcast and had to make the change in apple mail. At that point mail would start up and then crash. I disable the account in mail, and mail works fine. Re-enable the comcast account and mail crashes.

I created a new account in mail for comcast but used Imap instead of pop. Mail stayed up until the 1st email was received on my comcast account and then crashed. Now it crashes every time if the comcast account (imap) is enabled. I have 4 other accounts set up in mail (2 gmail and 2 on my domains), and I have no problem retrieving mail from them, only from comcast.

I've run the disk utility and the hard drive appears fine.

I'm getting same error message with email. Mindspring email, gmail are ok, but when I select Comcast they all disappear. Comcast ok on my Iphone. Using IMac 24" 2009 OS X 2009. And I have not changed anything on computer recently. If I hold down shift key and select comcast mail, I can see comcast email until I release shift key.

I deleted all my retained emails on Comcast last week and problem seemed to be solved for about 5 days. Then returned, except I can now look at a few emails and then I get the same error message. No problem looking at Comcast emails on IPhone or IPad. Just IMac. Too old to upgrade(2009) ????

Update: Apple Mail is working just fine now. I did not do anything. That it's working now is just as weird as when it started crashing two months ago to me and many others. Anyone have the same experience?

I have pretty much the exact same situation. My Comcast email inbox kills Mail. I can read and dispose of Comcast email messages, and Mail is OK until fresh messages come in.

So either Comcast changed something or Apple did. Sure would be nice if Apple took this seriously.

If one or two people or even three have the same problem within 24 hours, maybe a coincidence. But many people (with different ISPs) all running El Capitan have the same problem at the same time is strange. Apple should investigate.
