The device is not up to date on iOS. What do I need to do to update it. I am trying to add a watch to my phone and it will not let me cause the phone is not updated.

But I believe your problem is that an iPhone 6+ cannot update beyond iOS 12.X and an Apple Watch with watchOS 6 installed needs at least iOS 13.

What Apple Watch do you have? What iPhone do you have? What version of iOS does it have? Are you trying to pair your Apple Watch to your iPhone?
device states there is no new updates. How do I update when it is on 12 and I know there is an update?
