so i’ve been having an issue with i message where i’ll delete an entire chat to save storage on my iphone 6 and all of my closest friends and family say that when i delete their chat my read receipts turn off. is it something i can fix easily?

The Read Receipt feature turns OFF because the entire active thread of text is deleted. When a new thread starts then you have to turn ON read receipts for them.
You can turn ON Read Receipts for everyone if you like and that will stop turn the feature OFF as you have been experiencing.
Open Settings ➔ Messages ➔ Send Read Receipts : Set this to ON.
