I am very frustrated that the Smart Keyboard is not working at all since recent updates. My iPad Pro 10.5 is updated to 14.0.1 and is not responding at all to the keyboard. Any ideas? Bugs? Fixes?

Why won’t the Smart Keyboard work with the iPad Pro 10.5 with OS 14.0.1. ? What is going on?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities fmb70,

We see that you're having an issue with your Smart Keyboard not working after updating the software on your iPad. We understand your concern, and we'd be happy to look into this with you.

Take a look at the articles below with some steps in them that can help.

Use your Smart Keyboard Folio or Smart Keyboard with your iPad

If you go through these articles and the issue remains, respond back with some more details. What happens when you try to use the keyboard with your iPad? Are you getting an error message? If so, what does the message say?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

hi. It is quite apparent that the Smart Keyboard is either broken or that due to updates the connection to the iPad Pro is failing. For a product that is just out of warranty (the issue developed within warranty time) it seems like production issues that should be addressed by Apple. It only requires a few minutes of browsing to find that this is a common issue frustrating many who own the Smart Keyboard. An Extended warranty or Service Programme doesnt seem unreasonable for a 180€ product going faulty after less than two years. I’m sure many would agree.

Hello

i have tried the restart, I have checked the connection, nothing is making a difference. There is no response from the iPad Pro with keyboard. There is no error message. When the virtual keyboard is off no cursor is shown. It has been an issue for some time, perhaps since the 13. update. **** annoying

thanks for your answer.

I’ve just been to the local store here in Germany. Contrary to all well documented claims online about extended warranty for various Smart Keyboards, they say there is no such thing! What is going on? They only offered replacement or new purchase. This product is two years old and was functioning perfectly pre-update.

Fmb70 - following your visit, I had an Genius Bar appointment on Saturday to look at issue of intermittent Smart Keyboard problem following update of my iPad Pro 10.5” to 14.0.1. As it happens the keyboard worked fine during the session (typical!) and also worked fine with the guys iPadPro. He checked the serial number against their database; no issues, recalls, or replacements [appears my SK was manufactured March 2017 and I bought in Dec’17]. He suggested that I wait for iOS 14.1 to be released, which should be imminent following iPhone 12 release. I returned home and issue started to present itself again, argh! I did a Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings and the keyboard worked fine for a while. I then re-implemented Touch ID & Passcode and Display Lock/Unlock (following reset) which appears to make the issue re-occur, but is now less frequent than prior to Reset All - could be coincidence, will monitor... I’m simply not sure if this is a hardware (SK or iPad) or iOS update issue - totally intermittent...
