Can't download Microsoft Office on a brand new MacBook Pro

Making the leap from Windows to Mac and bought a new MacBook Pro 16 inch and have a large quantity of excel, word and powerpoint files I want to be able to access using Microsoft Office apps. When I try to download the apps using safari on the Microsoft site I get an error that saysSafari could not download the file because the disk doesn't have enough free space. When I check the storage it says there is 465 out of 500GB available. I think office should only be 1-2GB. Tried downloading Firefox to see if it was a browser issue and couldn't download that either with the same message. Any thoughts?

Open Safari preferences, click on the General button. Where it says, "File Download Location," set the location to Downloads. It's currently set at Desktop which is the reason for the error.

It's not a Finder issue. This will happen in Safari when Desktop is the download folder. It is the Safari default. Seen in on my systems when a new Safari is installed, sometimes.

Try Relaunching Finder

Go to: Apple menu
Select: Force Quit...
Select: Finder
Click: Relaunch button
Click: Relaunch button

If Downloaded to the Desktop:

Sometimes items on the Desktop reappear when you reset the Finder. So, reset it, and see if it pops up. It's worth a go.
