When I open my camera app or any app that requires the camera, it makes a weird rattling sound and it's only since I updated to ios 14(it's the back camera). When I turn it off and on the sound is much softer, I almost can't hear it unless I put my ear very close to the camera lens. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.
i've had this before WAYYY back when i had an iPhone 7 (which was atleast 3 to 4 years ago i believe), from what i know based off of knowledge of electronics, software, etc, it is for SURE a hardware problem and you'll probably have to take it to an apple store for them to examine and fix it, i personally didn't get it fixed when i had it but honestly they'll probably fix it, i noticed it was either the hardware that allows the phone to focus is broken OR it has to do with the camera's stabilization but since it's not mechanical i REALLY doubt its this, or it could honestly just be the mechanical shutter but it looks like it has to do with focusing itself, so basically this is a hardware problem and i'd suggest taking your phone to an apple store because there is no way for software to fix this unless you use a third party app to manually focus (which even then may be a bit weird), if you have any contradictions to this, questions, comments, or honestly anything feel free to reply and i or someone else would love to help further (honestly i'm always on apple discussions so for sure i'll notice it atleast)
edit: i am noticing someone in particular who's a part of one of apple's beta program's who said his problem was fixed with 14.2 beta 3, so ok maybeee its a software thing but still, i'm going to keep this because honestly it sounds to be the same problem as your having, idk, honestly if you want you can wait for the public release of ios 14.2 and if its not fixed THEN go to the apple store but its up to you
Exactly the same as you said is what i experienced...the sound arises in the rear camera zone whenever camera applications are opened...Few minutes ago i ve updated to 14.3,till now there is no such annoying sound when i open the camera...hope the bug had been fixed
I have had this same issue. I actually took the phone to Apple and they had no idea what was going on, so they replaced the back camera completely. Then when I received the phone it still made the noise, so they ended up replacing it. I have had the new phone for just few a weeks and everything was fine, until yesterday it started making the noise. They told me in the store that if it happened with this phone then it was probably just how it is gonna be, but now that I think about it I never heard it before doing the iOS 14 software update on the old phone. Probably will eventually get patched. Mine is not just a quiet rattle, it is actually quite loud and I can feel the sound vibration in my hand when it does it.
Are you sure?? because usually when you restart the phone, you can almost not hear the sound but if you put your ear very close to the back camera lens you can hear it a little bit, but much less than before.
What is more, I have noticed that when shaking or tapping my finger on the back of my phone I can hear something like a rattle of a moving element in the camera. I guess that element makes a noise when I turn on the camera... I am not sure whether this is normal, but excepting weird sound the camera works fine.
I’m seeing a connection, mine is a 2020 iPhone se like a lot of other people who are having the problem. I just got it a couple weeks ago and really started noticing over the last day or two when I open Snapchat and the camera app. It’s pretty annoying and I hope it gets fixed.

Nope never dropped it, since updating to 14.2 beta 3 I hadn’t experienced it, so it might be solved within software.
this is so weird, Apple don't seem to know about it, maybe it's not a software problem, maybe it's an internal problem i don't have a clue, a few days, I updated to ios 14.2 and the noise is still there
i'm having this problem too, i bought my iPhone SE2 form Casas Bahia Store, here in Brazil, and they sent me a whole new iPhone twice and all the 3 had the same problem. I'm wondering if it's being caused by iOS 14 update.
This is very weird, because according to the logic we all have established, it's clearly not a material problem. I've contacted Apple multiple times and they said that they had never heard about it. Maybe it's normal and we shouldn't be worried.
I think it might have something to do with the update that came with iOS 14 that you see a little green dot on the status bar when an app uses your camera or a yellow dot when an app uses your microphone
