Apple ID connection fails. No iCloud / App store / Music

Last week I had an issue, accountd was taking 500% CPU. So after looking on the internet, I came across following commands

sudo -v ; killall -9 accountsd com.apple.iCloudHelper ; defaults delete MobileMeAccounts ; mkdir ~/Library/Accounts/Backup ; mv ~/Library/Accounts/*.sqlite* ~/Library/Accounts/Backup/ ; killall -9 accountsd com.apple.iCloudHelper ; sudo reboot

after running them, no problem anymore apparently. However it's impossible to login to Apple ID dependent services, including app store, iCloud, etc

I'm receiving

Verification Failed

An unknown error occurred.

Also, in prefs/internet accounts, all the services buttons are unresponsive. Creating a second account

I created a second local account, and on that one no issue. Off course there the following is running

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AOSKit.framework/Versions/A/XPCServices/com.apple.iCloudHelper.xpc/Contents/MacOS/com.apple.iCloudHelper

but I couldn't start it manually. On the second account accountd doesn't seem to cause issues

Suggest going to Apple Apps Store >> Download the Full Catalina Installer ( 8.4 GB ). Once downloaded do not allow it to start. A New Application called Install Catalina should be in Applications Folder. Copy that App to a good external Drive. It can be used later to create a Bootable Installer on USB. Now, mack sure you have a good Time Machine Backup and a Bootable Clone Before then steps. Shutdown computer. If a laptop connect to charger. Restart computer in Safe Mode ( hold Shift key ) Immediately at power up. This is Safe mode and will boot much slower. Once in Run the Installer

Thanks. This raises the problem that I'm actually unable to access the App Store because of this, but I suppose I can use the other account to download it.

I suppose I might as well wait for Big Sur.

Why run the installer from safe mode and not from full runlevel ?

Also: I apparently skipped the step of reverting

mv ~/Library/Accounts/*.sqlite* ~/Library/Accounts/Backup/ ;

which is in all the guides recommending the accountsd fix. I'll try tonight

I had the same problem and there was no way, I had tried almost everything and, after thinking about it a lot, as it was a synchronization problem with iCloud, I realized that the IOS 14.0.1 update had recently come out, and I had updated the iPhone, but not the iPad. I have updated it and, for now, I have not had a problem again. I hope it can serve you.
