Album Art is mostly missing on my iPhone after syncing

I have hundreds of Albums of music in my Music library that were mostly imported from CDs. I just consolidated 2 large libraries of music files on my iMac, the source, of the music I synced to my iPhone. The Album Art is mostly missing on the iPhone. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? My support experiences have been a mixed bag of some good and some frustrating.

By all means wait for the next iOS update, but my experience is that once the iTunes has failed to properly populate the artwork cache on a device it never fixes it. This is a long standing issue, and I doubt it is suddenly going to be addressed now. I also recommend embedding artwork in each track, either manually or using this script or something similar: https://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=mxreembedartwork.

Try iTunes > Preferences > Devices > Reset Sync History and then try syncing once more.

(Oops, that is for iTunes not Music, and I cannot find an equivalent process).

If that hasn't helped try signing out of the iTunes Store on the device and then try again.

Otherwise see this post on erratic syncing.

Generally of if the artwork cache on the device doesn't reflect the content no amount of resycing will fix it and you'll have to go the full backup, restore as new, restore backup route.

tt2,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried to sync only a subset of my Music to the iPhone. It doesn't seem to matter. There is still most of the music on the iPhone even though the Artists were unchecked. While the amount of space taken up on the iPhone has altered some it's not clear why. I think that since I previously had a iTunes Match for a couple of years is part of the issue. I see in the Music app on the iPhone that I have "Downloaded" music. I'm not sure if that is related to Match. I also have some song titles that are greyed out. The songs are from CDs that were imported into iTunes over time and many different machines and OS versions.

Are you referring to restoring a full back up of the iPhone? Is there a way to restore the Photos? I have downloaded them into the Photos App in the Mac.
