How to hide computer on network in finder sidebar?

I'm using a shared network and I'm seeing unknown devices in my finder sidebar under 'locations'. Clicking for info returns nothing. I've read something about bonjour signals, but I'm not sure what that is.

What I want to know how to do is prevent my own devices from appearing in other peoples' 'locations' section, or elsewhere. Not just to prevent access to the contents of the devices, which I think turning off all sharing options ensures, but to prevent the visibility of the device there itself.

Any solutions? Thanks.

Yes, in that if you de-select those Sharing options, then your Mac will not be seen by other devices on the network.

In other words, that's how to accomplish the following:

That's how you do it.

thanks but how to make my mac not to discover any unknown devices from a shared network? ( not just hiding it from Finder but it is still there ).

No.

If their appearance in a Finder Sidebar or Network window causes you concern you may only choose to hide those devices, as leroydouglas wrote. They appear because their owners / administrators have chosen to advertise their presence.
