gmail doesnt update on mail app after ios14.0.1

I’d like to keep mail app as my default for my gmail and iCloud.com for iPhone and iPad. I have reset my email a few times. It works for that day only and then stops and I then have to use the gmail app. Not sure what else to do.

Hello there gichup,

We'd like to help get both your iCloud Mail and Gmail accounts working right with Mail. That's great both devices are already up to date, as we can rule that out as a possible cause. While you may need to reach out to Google for further troubleshooting, we'll only take that step if needed. Let's rule out some other possible causes:

  1. You mentioned having no issues with the Gmail app, but we recommend also confirming if there are any issues with using the webpage for Gmail.
  2. We understand you've already tested deleting/adding Gmail to Mail, but we also recommend testing iCloud Mail for any issues.
  3. If you see an error message, does it provide any insight as to what's happening with Gmail, or any additional steps to take on either device?

We eagerly await your responses to help us get this resolved.

Hi, I deleted and then restored my emails (Mail and Gmail) and this solved the problem for just ONE day. Next day, Mail App was only updating iCloud emails - gmail emails weren’t updating. I seem destined to now learn to use 2 email Apps: Mail for iCloud and Gmail separately. Tried defaulting Gmail as the App but that also doesn’t solve it - iCloud mail doesn’t update.

Hey Jeremy, thanks. I’ve done the iPadOS14.1 update. I then defaulted to mail as the preferred email App for both Gmail and iCloud mail. There wasn’t any change in that the problem persists. I have tried getting off WiFi to only use Cellular. Still no change.

Gmail and iCloud webmail still work fine. Not sure what else to do.

Hey gichup,

Thanks for letting us know you've already tried adding/deleting your Gmail account in Mail. Let's clear up the following to continue helping us determine the next steps:

  1. We've recently released iOS and iPadOS 14.1. As you have iOS 14.0.1 installed on both devices, please back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. As it wasn't clear from your latest message, what occurred when you tested receiving/sending emails on both the Gmail and iCloud websites?
  3. What are the results while connected to another Wi-Fi network on either device, and what are the results while only using cellular with your iPhone?

Please let us know what you find, and the results will help us determine our next steps. Take care.
