How to fix MacBook Air plugged in but not charging?

Okay, couple of issues with my 2014 MacBook Air 13”.

Battery cycles - 683

Battery health - Good

Charger plugged in but battery not charging.

Not an issue with the charger since I tried with another charger as well.

Battery charges if I shut down the laptop for a day at least.

Most times, mac goes to sleep abruptly when I plug it in. Wakes up immediately only to go to sleep again. Works fine if i plug it out.

No Amber light on MagSafe when “plugged in but not charging”.

I tried the SMC reset but doesn’t seem to make a difference. Also tried cleaning the MagSafe ports.

Can someone please help with this? I don’t have an apple service centre near me & I don’t want to give it to a third party.

It sounds as though you already exhausted all the usual steps, but review the following to confirm you didn't overlook anything:

If your Mac battery status is "Not Charging" - Apple Support

If your Mac battery won’t charge - Apple Support

The latter includes instructions to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac which you already did, but there is no harm in trying it again. Just be sure to read and follow the instructions exactly as written.

Finally, even though you cleaned the MagSafe adapter port, review Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters - Apple Support to see if has anything else to suggest.

And one more thing: the power adapter you're using must absolutely, positively be a genuine Apple power adapter. Unfortunately there is no reliable way of determining their authenticity from an exterior visual inspection. The overwhelming majority of power adapters purchased from non-Apple vendors are counterfeit (and dangerous) so the only way to be certain yours is genuine is to purchase directly from Apple or an authorized Apple reseller.
