How can I connect my new 2020 iMac and my old 2014 iMac in firewire relay mode?

I have a new 2020 MacMini, but want to transfer files from old 2014 mini using firewire relay mode. How can I do this as there is no firewire on the new computer. The old computer has problems booting but I figure that in relay mode the new should be able to see the hard drive.

I need my old data desperately!

I’m pretty sure there is no FireWire on the old one either. However, both should have Thunderbolt. You will need a Thunderbolt 2 cable and a USB-C adapter for the 2020 Mac mini.

After that, it should work as described here: Transfer files between two Mac computers using target disk mode - Apple Support
