On the apple event, wide and telephoto lens of iphone 12 pro max are set differently.

I don't think anyone will know for sure until there are some teardowns available. With Apple's attention to detail I really doubt they would have messed up in the keynote. It's possible the different cameras required them to be positioned differently.
