Trend House Call ''Threat'' OSX REF.9EAE4E3A

This query was posted back in June 2020. BobTheFisherman responded saying to ignore it. The original post is no longer active. A 3rd party 'Trend Micro HouseCall for Mac' application does a search for security threats and finds the above threat. It provides a fix button but fails to fix the threat. Do I really have a threat or is it false triggering, or even worse, trying to scare me into installing the full security application?

The free Malwarebytes may take care of it...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

If that doesn't do it, we might find the problem with an etrecheck report.

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

https://pastebin.com/

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

<script src="https://pastebin.com/embed_js/KuvnghqA"></script>

The important part is...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

I discovered the File MRT to be "Apple’s Malware Removal Tool (MRT) an app which often complements XProtect’s signature-based screening, and can automatically remove all traces of many different species of malware.

if you see MRTConfigData in the Installations list under Software in System Report, your Mac is protected."

It seems the Trend micro HouseCall scan did not know the threat was another legitimate malware defence program running on the system.

I am studying the etrecheck utility program now.
