Apple watch 4 battery drain when connected to AirPod Pro & using Fitness app, without iPhone

This is a recurring problem. The watch battery drains from 100% to <10% within 30 min of using the Fitness app while connected to a pair of Bluetooth headphones. Without an iPhone in sight.

This was fixed a few months ago when I had a problem with the BT connectivity with Bose Soundsport Free via AppleWatch exchange (mailed it in and got another one back)

I am not using AirPod Pro, and the problem has come back.

It occurs only when I listen to music/podcast, use the Fitness App, and no iPhone in BT's range. It seems like the problem occurs when I notice that I have problems controlling the volume through the watch.

This is really frustrating. Ready to toss out the AirPods!

I am afraid the typical countermeasure does not appear to solve the problem. This is the reason that led to the hardware exchange. The problem appear to have something to do with Bluetooth. I am now having problems keeping good BT connection with my AirPod Pros. (No problem with Bose).

I recall several instances when the watch battery went from >80% to <10% (while listening to podcast and fitness app running—no IPhone nearby), I encountered problems adjusting for volume.
