Can't Remove a Contact from a Group

I tried following Mac Help. Open Contacts, select the Group, select the contact, the press delete on the Keyboard. I just get a tone and the contact is not removed. The Group is not a Smart Group. I was able to go into iCloud.com and remove the contact from the group but I am supposed to be able to do that on my iMac Running Catalina. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Perhaps Contacts is NOT synching on all of my devices?
