I am looking into a refurbished phone for my Daughter. In australia the refurb market seems to grade phones, but the refurbished phones for sale directly on Apple website have no such grade.
Are they graded with Apple? or do the have to meet a particular grade for resale?
No, Apple does not assign a grade to a refurbished iPhone. Most likely because Apple ensures a refurbished device is pretty much indistinguishable from new and also comes with a full one year warranty.

I have never purchased a refurbed iPhone as they aren't available in my country, but the iMac, MacBook Pro, and 2 MacBook Airs that I have purchased have been pristine. Absolutely indistinguishable from a new product.
