Voice control of maps not working consistently.

When I ask Siri for map directions, sometimes it says no phone is connected, though the phone is connected. Other times Siri just says "pardon" and the options menu show the phone grayed out. Occasionally Siri commands do still bring up the requested directions. I'm using iPhone X with iOS 14.0.1, Apple USB cable as always, and the Siri control of maps has always worked. I think but am not sure that the issue began after iOS 14 update.
