Face ID or double clicking requires assistive touch

Instead of using Face ID automatically for a download or purchase, my iPhone 11 keeps asking me to use assistive touch. I have looked at dozens of entries and articles but can’t figure out why I can’t just use Face ID or double click the way I did with iOS 13. Any help?

Well, after some more playing, I think I fixed it under Switch Control. I didn’t even know that setting existed, but for some reason it had been turned on and after a couple tries I got it I the correct setting. Just used Apple Pay through a restaurant app and it worked so I’m good. Thanks again for your attempts to help. Maybe my issue and resolution can help someone else!

Hi chroak,

Thanks for following up with us and sharing this screenshot.

Are you using iOS 14.1 on your device? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Have you been able to unlock your device with Face ID otherwise?

Have you tried to Restart your iPhone yet?

If you tap Settings > Face ID & Passcode and turn iTunes & App Store off there, are you able to download using just your Apple ID password? If so, try toggling iTunes & App Store back on there and test again.

If none of the above helps, tap Settings > [name] > Media & Purchases. Then tap the icon in the top left and sign out of your Apple ID, and then sign back in and test. Keep in mind when you do this, any offline Apple Music content will be removed and you would need to re-download it after.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Hi chroak,

It sounds like you are unable to use Face ID to make purchases. We can help with this.

We'd recommend using the steps listed here to make sure Face ID for purchases is enabled: Use Face ID on your iPhone or iPad Pro

You can find out more information about the AssistiveTouch feature here: Use AssistiveTouch on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We hope this helps.

Take care!
