iPhone - How to delete all photos except favorites

As it says above: How to delete all photos except favorites on an iPhone?

The answers I find online and in this forum don't seem to work anymore as there is no longer, it seems, any easy way to select all photos.

The method I see in lots of places online and in this forum is:

1) hide the photos you want to keep

2) select all the others

3) delete them

4) unhide the hidden ones.

Step 2 is where this seems to break down in 2020 when you have a phone with thousands of photos. You can go into an album and press select, and then select all and delete them. However, there are thousands of photos that are not in any album. In Recent for example, when you press 'select', 'select all' does not appear.

Thank you for responding to my message. The documents you've shared do not provide a workable method for deleting thousands of photos from an iphone.

While there isn't a specific option to delete all photos other than your favorites, we do suggest making sure that the photos you want to keep are secure. Take a look here for some tips on importing your photos: Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Do you use iCloud Photo Library? If so, you can use the iCloud website to select multiple photos to delete at once. Follow the step 1 listed here: Delete and recover photos and videos on iCloud.com and when you select your photos, press Command+A (on Mac) or Control+A (on Windows) to select all of the photos. Then, move on to step 2 to delete those photos.
