My downloads folder doesn't appear in the sidebar in finder but when I try to access it through go>downloads , a message pops up "The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found." Does anyone know how to fix this issue or recover the folder?

Look in your Home folder to see if there's a Documents folder there. If it is drag it into the side bar.
Also do you have iCloud Drive enabled and, if so, also have the Desktop & Documents folder enabled for the iCloud Drive?
