screen time approvals not working from apple watch after watchOS7 upgrade

Screen time approval from my watch stopped working for one of my two children after I upgraded to watchOS 7. I have restarted my phone, restarted my watch, and shut bluetooth on and off. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

Apple Watch Series 3, watchOS 6

This is really not a satisfactory response to the problem. Many others on this very forum have highlighted this same issue with various combinations of watch OS and phone OS.

I too have had this problem for the last few weeks. It started with watch OS 7.0 and since then, there have been at least 1 update for my watch (series 5) and phone (iPhone 11).

the solution seems to be to unpair the watch and then re-pair/restore.

complete lack of settings to try and fix this and no real acknowledgement from Apple that the issue is real.

minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but the quality of the Apple ecosystem is slipping

Same here. I have iPhone 7 Plus with Watch series 6 running version 7.1 on the watch. When my son is requesting for more time I get the notification and I approve it, however somehow it never makes it to his Mac laptop. So then I would have to ask him to resend and I would have to do it from my phone which defeats the purpose of having a watch. I would have to unpair and pair the watch again every 2-3 weeks. Apple please fix this issue.

Hi there SteveZChicago,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have an issue with Screen Time on your Apple Watch. Are you referring to Ask To Buy, or are you referring to asking for more time? How old is the child that you are no longer getting notifications for?

If the issue is with Ask To Buy, make sure you are on a supported device. Supported devices are iOS8 or later or OS X Yosemite or later. Learn more here: If Ask to Buy isn't working.

We hope this helps!

Hi again SteveZChicago,

Thanks for clarifying. Are you able to get the requests for more time on your other devices? Do you sometimes see the requests for more time on the Apple Watch but other times not, or do you never get the requests at all? In some cases notifications will go to your iPhone instead of your Apple Watch. Learn where you'll see your notifications here: Notifications on your Apple Watch.

We look forward to hearing back from you!

I am also having the same issue. Son asks for more time, and the notification gets delivered to my watch and my phone, however when I allow more time from my watch (as I have always done in the past) it doesn’t send the approval to his phone. Then the notification disappears from the lock screen of my phone and I have to approve by accessing it in the screen time settings. I noticed the issue after his 8+ updated to ios14.
