iPhone lightning cable caught fire

Has anyone had their lighting charger catch fire-and without your iPhone plugged into it?

I had noticed the phone was not charging well over the past few weeks and thought it was the phone itself. Today, while the phone was NOT connected to it, it caught fire at the end that plugs into the phone and meets the cord.

We specifically don't use third party chargers because of their short lifespan. I purchased this charging cable directly from Apple and in less than a year, it caught fire. Has anyone had a resolve to this issue?
