60 W charger for my mac book pro

Hi i am using a 15” MBP with retina, early 2013 model. My charger just died on me and i was offered by my friend to buy and use his 60 W charger. I have been unsung it for couple of days on trial and i don’t seem to face any challenges, but my concern is, will it damage my battery in the long run?Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello,

To simply answer your question no it won't damage your computer. The MacBook Pro's actually use a higher wattage charger that is also interchangeable between the MacBook Pro's and MacBook's. While it won't do any damage it won't charge as fast and may limit your usage while charging however, in the end you are safe to use it. I found this article about MacBook chargers from a while back that may also answer your questions.

It will do NO harm to your computer/battery.

If it is less W then the Apple recommended, it will charge a bit slower that is all.

Why would anyone buy a charger that will not charge the computer?

"You can use a compatible higher wattage power adapter without issue, but it won't make your computer charge faster or operate differently. If you use a power adapter that is lower in wattage than the adapter that came with your Mac, it won't provide enough power to your computer."
