Silence when iPhone is locked

I WANT/NEED/DESIRE to received text alerts when my phone is locked. However, I'm unable to remove the checkmark on 'while the phone is locked'.

Text Alerts I'm not getting any alerts when my phone is locked. I've missed phone calls and text messages. My phone is not silenced. I do Not have the Do Not Disturb on. The Bluetooth is off. On the Do Not Disturb page it gives the choices to silence the phone when the screen is locked... Always While iPhone is Locked I do not want either choice but it will not let me get rid of the check mark. I have to choose one or the other. How do I disable this.

No text alerts when iPhone SE (2020) screen locked Brand new iPhone SE, all settings all as previous phone but no new text alert when screen is locked. IOS 13.5.1 Do not disturb is off, notifications are on, volume turned up, ringer is on. Anyone have any suggestions? Sort of makes phone not fit for purpose!! I don’t want to turn auto lock screen off permanently

Just make sure "Do Not Disturb" is not ON.

There is no check mark associated with that phrase.
