iOS 14 Contacts - Group has no members

I have a few groups set up in Contacts on my iOS device running iOS 14. when I try to send an email to a group, I get a message that says that the group has no members. But it manifestly does have members. What's up?

I found temporary work around.. Set up a new contact in your Contacts on your iPhone, or iMAC. Do not use the group contact, just a regular individual contact card.

Type the name of the group into the Company space.

Enter all the e-mails into the one e-mail space.

The format you need looks like this:

Put the person's name in " " and the email in < >. Then separate each person with a comma.

"name one" <name1@mail.com>, "name two" <name2@mail.com>,

and you are done.

To send an e-mail to the group, just type the Group name into the To: field and your iPhone will think it is a company and fill in all the addresses. The key is to separate them with commas.

Thanks, I didn't want to make it sound too complicated, but if you want a short cut to type in the Group's name and addresses into the new card...

Find a sent email addressed to the Group. Open a new email. Copy the Group members addresses into the body of the new email. (You can drag them from one to the other). Send that email to yourself. And then copy & paste the group members into the Contacts card. Don't forget to add the comas in-between.

Hi there ksgordon,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you need help with your contact groups. If you look in your Contacts app, does it show your groups set up properly? Do you use iCloud to sync your contacts, or are you using a different email address or syncing service? If you are using iCloud, View contacts on iCloud.com to make sure your groups are also set up properly there.

We hope this helps!

I am having the same problem with my iPad Pro. I turned off contact syncing in iCloud settings. It asked if I wanted to delete my (iPad) contacts and I clicked on yes. I checked Contacts and all were gone but three that I had added on my iPad. I then went to settings and turned iCloud syncing back on. Then checked contacts and all my contacts were back and the groups were populated. But when I went to mail and tried to include a group in a message I got the No Member message again. Come on Apple. This BUG is shoddy workmanship. When will you fix this?

I’m experiencing the same problem. Ever since iOS 14 update the groups show no members on iOS but on my Mac there are there. Both iPad and iPhone have no members in groups. I have toggled them on and off, I have turned off contacts in other mail platforms (gmail) and I have checked iCloud to make sure they are set up. This is a great feature that I use all day for business. Any ideas?

Yep. As soon as I updated all iOS devices to 14.2 today I started getting the “No Members” error when using any of my groups in Mail.

The Groups, populated correctly are still there in the Contacts app itself.

For a long time I have had trouble using Group contacts in the BCC field. Nothing happened, without any error thrown even though they worked in the “To” field. My Workaround: I would have to drag and drop each contact from the To field to the BCC field.

Now nothing in any field works and they all say “No Members.”

This problem is identical on two different iPad models, but my IPhone SE is fine. Go figure!

I am having the same problem. I have groups set up in Contacts (visible on Macbook, iPhone, iPad). I have been successfully and frequently sending to groups on my iPad using the native Mail app for a long time. Just a couple of weeks ago, I now see "no members" when I type in the group name in the to/cc/bcc fields. This is a recent change, presumably since an iOS update. This is maddening! I use groups a lot. I can send to groups on my Macbook Apple Mail.

So, it's not that I have done something wrong, or set groups up incorrectly, as it was working fine until a couple of weeks ago.
