Verify you are in your chosen default photo library...

You are welcome! That is a very interesting observation.

The photos that were on your Mac, how were they previously imported?

Both of the devices can be connected to iCloud and still not have any data loss unless you have been deleting any of the photos.

If you have backed your Mac using Time Machine at any point prior to noticing these missing photos, you may be able to retrieve them by restoring from Time Machine.

If you're not seeing the Pictures folder on your Mac that just means that you need to enable it to be shown in your side bar. To complete this process so that you are able to access the Pictures folder for verification, follow these provided steps:

• • Choose Finder > Preferences, click Sidebar, then select Pictures.

Once you are able to enable this folder, you should be able to open back Finder and see the folder in the side bar and verify if the albums and pictures are located there.
