Thank you for your helpful reply. To answer your questions and try to figure this out.
1) I do not subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match or use iCloud for streaming purchases. I am very old school - open iTunes and select music to play
2) From what I see, the albums that have been resorted are albums that I have downloaded from other sources and I added to my iTunes library.
I keep all my music in one folder on my D Drive. As I said, I am very meticulous about making sure both my Artist and Artist Names are Last Name > First Name. I do this through iTunes directly when adding music, not in the folder on my D Drive.
These resorted albums have been in my library for significant periods of time, so it is not recent downloads/library additions. it is random albums that seem to get resorted. Not an entire artists' worth of albums (ex. not all the Bruce Springsteen albums get resorted, only some).
After I resort them correctly to Last Name > First Name they are seeming to stay put in the correct place (but I need to verify this more).
3) I do have 2 instances from official iTunes Store purchased albums where some/but not all songs are resorted by first name.
These albums are Bob Dylan (Side Tracks) and John Prine (first album) where only some songs in each album will resort to First Name > Last Name - even after I have repeatedly set them Last Name > First Name in the Album Info window.
But, they are not resorted every time I open iTunes. Sometimes I open iTunes and they are in their correct place; sometimes not.
4) Yesterday, I had one album that had resorted itself. I tried to change the name to its proper place and the album would not move. I opened up iTunes this morning and it is in its correct place Last Name > First Name
5) I also updated iTunes for Windows to the current version yesterday (but I still have the problem). I think there was a recent Windows update, but I am not sure when that was.
6) It is not a lot of albums that are getting resorted. Only a few, but it is frustrating and makes me wonder if a larger problem is around the corner.
Thank you again
Andrew
