Trouble with Target Display Mode

I am unable to get my Mid 2010 27" iMac into Target Display Mode. I have a 2020 MacBook Pro and have connected the two using the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and Thunderbolt cable. None of the suggested remedies are working. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

In early 2020, Apple removed the ability of 2020 Mac to take advantage of an older iMac as a external monitor. from Apple's now-archived support article on TDM"

However, 2009 and 2010 iMacs were more forgiving and one user here claims to have made it work ona 2012 model; others responding gin the same thread have not:

Apple have now fully deprecated this function so I doubt calling Apple will help.
