iMovie won't drop iTunes songs in

I have looked at a couple different places and after finally getting stumped I finally thought to look through finder.

So, through iMovie and iTunes everything appears that I should be able to use the music from iTunes ("right-clicking" the song and looking at the file info does NOT say it is protected.) Going through Finder, though, DOES show it's protected. 😢

As you can see it looks like it should work, in the first one, but then in the second one, it definitely shows it is protected. Sooooo, is there a work-around? My thought is, I have an old MBP with a super-drive. If I were to burn it, then re-upload it through the super-drive, it would it see it as a straight AAC?

Music obtained from Apple Music is copyright protected. Downloading the songs to iTunes does not remove that protection. So, unfortunately, if that is your situation the songs cannot be used in iMovie.

iTunes did away with DRM protection in 2009, so you could probably repurchase a DRM free version of the song from iTunes.

iTunes does have a Match program that you can purchase a subscription to for around $24.99 that lets you download DRM free matches of your DRM protected songs. This would work for songs purchased directly from iTunes, but not sure that it would work for songs where Apple Music was involved in the chain of purchase. You can get more info from the iTunes website.

As for burning the song to a disc and then reuploading, as a factual matter that procedure was done in the old days before copyright laws were more refined. Don't know if it still works. However, we cannot approve or recommend anything here that would defeat copyrights.
