Hello Lindenbaum,

I've just got rid of it by:

  1. Using Finder to go to "Library/LaunchAgents" and moving the most recently added and suspicious looking file to the bin.
  2. Did the same here "Library/LaunchDemons"
  3. And here "~Library/LaunchAgents"
  4. I also went to "Applications" and sorted by most recently added to see if anything suspicious has been added, and removed that.
  5. Then I restarted my Mac and it's fixed!

Good luck!

Rolaa's solution appears to get rid of this error message for some people, others like myself find no "suspicious files" and for those that it does "work" for, it gets rid of the error message but yet they are still unable to print to their HP printer.

Like others, my problem suddenly appeared October 23, 2020. Nothing would print from my Mac, if I switch the printer to a PC, then it still prints like always. Then I started getting messages like "HPDeviceMonitoring.framework will damage your computer" anytime I attempted to print.

I have fixed my problem. No error message, printer works (and the printer is an HP 3030, 16 years old, drivers no longer available from HP website):

  1. Under System Preferences-> Printers and Scanners: remove the printer from the list by selecting the printer and pressing the "-" button.
  2. Open Finder, select Go > Go to Folder.
  3. Type: /Library/Printers/ and hit enter.
  4. Create a new folder called “Printers Content” and move everything from the Printers folder inside it. Now drag that folder to your Desktop.
  5. Reconnect your printer and try printing again:
    1. If it works: Move the “Printers Content” folder to the Trash.
    2. If it doesn’t work: Return the “Printers Content” folder to the Printers folder and empty it.

Finally got sick of waiting for a hot fix to appear for this - very disappointed as this is not something users should have to fix Apple + HP.

Simple steps I took to fix it:

  1. So to system preferences, printers & Scanners
  2. Select a printer, right click and select 're-set printing system'
  3. Confirm you want to do this
  4. Use the + icon to add the printer back in again (note likely it will suggest using AirPrint which is fine)

Problem has gone.

hi, I'm getting the exact same popup, I know its not malware. because its part of my printer software downloaded from Apple Mac store but apple not updated my software a few OS's ago and have Malwarebytes Premium installed for a few years now. I have not downloaded anything in past 24-48 hours. somehow I think its a MacOs compatibility issue apple will need to address

2020 iMac 27”, Catalina 10.15.7

I tried to print a page on an HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless E709n. It failed to print, and the HP print manager had the message above. The printer worked yesterday. Support.hp.com mentions being "sure you have the latest Catalina version 10.15.3 installed."

App Store/Updates shows that 3 apps were auto-updated today. PhotoScape X Photo Editor, Fotor Photo Editor, and Kindle 1.30. When I opened Kindle, half of the books in the Library only had placekeeper text and could not be opened. Kindle 1.29.0 on my MacBook works as expected, and Kindle on iOS also works. I have not installed or manually updated any software recently, and the computer has not been re-started in days. Although I did access Amazon on Safari today, I do not have Amazon Music. VirusBarrier Scanner did not find any malware.

Hi Rolaa, This is what I see when I try to find the third folder. Is that normal? LaunchAgents shows com.microsoft.update.agent.plist as the most recently added (Oct. 14, 2020), LaunchDaemons shows com.microsoft.autoupdate.helper.plist as the most recently added (Oct. 14, 2020). Next most recent is com.adobe.fpsaud.plist added Sept. 25, 2020. Should I delete the most recent com.microsoft.... plists? They don't seem relevant to HP devices. Why is this happening on Oct. 23, 2020 for so many? macOS Catalina 10.15.7 MacBook Pro.

Hi tcmeyers. I tried the technique of renaming com.hp.devicemonitor.plist to com.hp.devicemonitor.plist.old (as suggested by van233 9:51 AM), then tried to print a test page on my wirelessly connected LaserJet Pro MFP M125 nw. I now see

as the persistent popup. At least the offending file name in the message changed. I will now try your technique explained in your 2:25 PM message.

Oct 23, 2020 7:05 PM in response to tcmeyers

Hi tcmeyers. I followed your Oct. 23 2:25 PM message. When I got to "Select your printer" (mine is a wireless LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw on a wifi network), the message was "No devices have been found". I then went to "System Preferences", "Printers & Scanners", clicked + to add a printer, chose IP, entered the IP address (appears on the M125nw screen), chose the HP Jetdirect - Socket protocol, and added the printer. The printer showed up in my list of printers. I then tried to print a document using MS Word, and saw the following message in the Print Queue:

on opening the M125nw printer Print Queue. No joy. I removed the printer in Settings, Printers & Scanners, then added it back with the Internet Printing Protocol - IPP; same Print Queue message. I removed the printer again, and added it back with the "AirPrint" protocol. The same Print Queue message appeared. Interestingly, the com.hp.devicemonitor.plist file is no longer in ~/Library/LaunchAgents. Your "Uninstall" process seems to have removed it. I am out of time. Not sure how to get my HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw printer to print now. I am running macOS Catalina 10.15.7, now without the annoying continuous pop-ups.

Hi Rolaa,

I've been going around on this and have not deleted anything at all yet. I'm a little skittish to delete anything in the LaunchAgent area because I cannot tell what is "new" and what is old and none of the items in my LaunchAgent folder had a mention of "HP" in the files. I have attached that screenshot below the first. The most recent addition was something from Google on 10/20. I was not going to mess with them. The first attached screenshot is what I see when I click on the malware alert box to "open in finder". Does any of this mean anything? Maybe this is where my print drivers are? Also, I have mentioned in this chain that I cannot get the HP Easy Start App to work for some reason on my MAC with Catalina 15.10.7.

thanks to all in this community for help!

For me the HP update that came through at the end of the day that day worked. I did not receive any more warnings that the device-monitoring framework is damaging. But now this morning I am getting similar dialog boxes about two other HP frameworks:

I am guessing that we will have to wait for HP to issue another update.

Oct 23, 2020 3:29 AM in response to alistairmck

Hello alistairmck,

You can obviously do that, but I don't think the HP software is the culprit. I updated (what I thought was) the Adobe Flash player yesterday, and have since had that problem. I think that instead I downloaded malware then.

I've been with Apple forever, and I have never had that problem.

Best, Carola

When I looked in those folders, there are five files, 3 arrived on 19 October although I only got the pop up this morning.

com.google.keystone.agent.plist

com.google.keystone.xpcservice.plist

com.google.keystone.daemon.plist

This arrived in September:

com.adobe.fpsaud.plist

I know nothing of these thins so any help will be much appreciated.

This in March:

com.apple.installer.osmessagetracing.plist

“HPDeviceMonitoring.framework” will damage your computer.
