Hey there! I’ve seen this after the update as well, I think HP drivers are out of date and need to be updated to work. Here’s what worked:

First, if updating the software manually doesn’t work:

Open Finder, on the top menu hit Go > Computer > Macintosh HD (Usually) > Library > Printers.

Save (If you need to, and Delete the HP folder from there, (You’ll notice when clicking “Show in Finder” when you get the errors, these are where the files are, in this case old, outdated drivers and files).

Once deleted, open System Preferences > Printers and Scanners.

Right click (or Control click) select “Reset Printing System”, (This will delete any existing Printers and Scanners).

Once done:

If USB Printer, dis connect/re connect, you may see the option to “Install” the new HP software.

If a wireless “AirPrinter”, just hit the “+” sign to re-add the printer and select “Add”.

Do a test print to make sure it’s working again!

This is Gatekeeper, Mac’s security doing its job, most likely if you’re getting that error message, it’s a good thing to remove the older software.

Hope it all goes well!

Get the latest Mac drivers from HP website (not the old Apple HP 5.1 driver). HP Easy start.app should install the latest drivers which will work.

Nope. I tried installing HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg downloaded directly from the HP site, uploaded Aug 4, 2020, onto two MacBooks (Pro and Air). One running 10.14.6 and the other 10.15.7.

It still gave me the certificate errors, the crashes, and the general failure to print on my (wired) EtherNet-connected Color LaserJet CP1518ni. It's a printer that still prints perfectly from older Macs (running 10.12.n or 10.6.n).

I can get this printer to print from Mojave or Catalina machines IF I set it up using its static IP address, and IF I use the Generic PostScript driver, but even then some documents crash the printer itself. It never did that before HP and/or Apple broke the drivers.

You would find it on your printer. Should be displayable on the printer panel or print out the diagnostic page on the printer. Search for display ip address of your hp printer model number.

ex:

find "ip address hp office pro 6968" [ piece of junk ]

print status pages for hp office pro 6968

The following response is on HP Community board

I've spent hours on this issue. It appears that the HP Drivers do not work with Catalina 10.15.7. Their driver package security certificate has expired and the code sign is out of date for HP Utility. Until HP issues an updated driver, which they may not do because it mostly affects older printers, you can either try to go back to an earlier version of Catalina or buy a new printer.

I know that if I'm going to buy another printer, it won't be an HP nor a Samsung.

my printer is not that old!
