mail size limit

why the Mail program won't download emails with large attachments (i think the limit is about 6 Mb now)? How can I fix it? I don't like telling my friends not to send big photos or other big files. I don't want much, say 20 Mb. I was using High Sierra till recently, moved to Mojave and it' still the same. Right now, the Mail program just chokes on the big mails and doesn't let the other ones pass. Going to the provider's server every time to read/remove the offending mail is no fun.

Maybe it is your email provider who has the size limit. Who is your provider? It is easy to use a cloud service to send large files.

FWIW, I have no trouble sending or receiving up to 25MB attachments on my Macs using Gmail. I would contact your provider and ask.

My provider is orange.fr. But i get full mails on their server, there is no size limit there. it's only my Mac which decides on the size of the mail it will accept. Because the mail starts coming and i see messasage being received, but i know by now that if it takes more than 2 minutes, it's choked

Size limits are set by the mail servers. So, your server is blocking the attachment when you access the email. You can verify this by trying another email server. I use Thunderbird.
