IGiving my wife a shared iphone 7 and I'm moving to an android phone using the iphone sim. How to avoid issues?

I've been sharing my iphone 7 with my wife and want to give it to her and leave texts and photos on the iphone. She'll put a new sim with a new phone # in it. I bought an android phone and will use the iphone sim in that phone. I don't want to wipe the iphone. Do I just sign out of icloud and imessage, and she creates a new apple ID to use with the iphone? And will this create any problems for me if I use the old iphone sim with the android phone? Sorry for the long post!I

Hello cmedrum ,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you would like to give your wife the iPhone 7 that you've been using, and do not wish to remove any of the data.

To leave the messages and photos on the iPhone, you'll want to be sure that you have turned off Messages in iCloud, and turned off iCloud Photos. This will allow the Messages and photos to remain on the device after you sign out of your iCloud ID. This article will show you where you can find the settings in iCloud: Change your iCloud feature settings.

You will also need to deregister iMessage on the iPhone before you transfer the SIM to your Android phone: Deregister iMessage on your iPhone or online.

You'll also want to ensure that you've signed out of all the settings. Step 3 from the "Remove your personal information from your old device," will show you how to do so: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Once you've signed out everywhere, this article will walk you through all the locations on the iPhone your wife will need to then sign into her Apple ID: What to do after you change your Apple ID or password.

All the best.
