Numbers update problem on MacBook

Hello - I upgraded my Mac desktop to macOS Catalina so I could get the Numbers update. My MacBook Air (2013) is on OS X Yosemite. Not enough free space to change to Catalina. It is not allowing me to update Numbers on the MacBook. Help. Any suggestions?

After a motherboard replacement I can't upgrade to latest version of Numbers In OS Catalina, Numbers is v. 6.2.1. Files open but when I attempt any action, the records "disappear" Tried restoring a file from Time Machine and from an old laptop, but the problem remained. Upgraded to OS Monterey 12.3. Problem persists and can't upgrade to latest v of numbers.

Thank you John for your answer. Turns out I had to upgrade to HighSierra and then Catalina. Cheers.
