Apple TV 3rd Gen stopped working with airplay

I'm using a apple TV 3rd Gen to airplay from an iPad air (1st air). Since yesterday no problem, since today (23.10.2020) trying to airplay something results in a "cannot play try again later". Trying a software update for AppleTV results in "cannot load update". Any ideas ?

Waipu TV says their current version app needs iOS 10.3 or later. Does your iPad Air have that?

Some services do not (continue to) support AirPlay to all models Apple TV. Inquire with Waipu TV is they (still) support AirPlay to an Apple TV (3rd generation).

… busy indicator … "Cannot .. try later"

That seems to be about the connection itself, though. Verify that AirPlay works for other content, to test that part of the home network. Verify that Waipu TV works without AirPlay.

The same TV channels as before. WaipuTV even with the free german TV stations ARD oder ZDF doesn't work any longer.

But you are right to ask this question - a few of the WaipuTV special channels did show the same behaviour before. First a busy indicator for some time, then the error message with "Cannot .. try later". Maybe it's a question of encoding or content protection failure - on the iPad-WaipuTV App the content can be viewed. But it can't be airplayed to appleTV.

Finally it turned out to be a network problem. AppleTV indicated a local IP adress. Restart of a WLAN repeater (AVM Repeater with RJ45) connected to the RJ45 of the appleTV solved the issue. Airplay works fine with appleTV 3rd Gen.

A bit strange is the effect that appleTV despite loosing IP connection did show a reaction to airplaying something - hourglass and then and error message (cannot load .. retry later). But I learned that appleTV does also have a WLAN on board, but that would be unused if connected to RJ45 network. I couldn't even find the WLAN settings in the configuration menu. Also the Box has Bluetooth - at least for remote control and keyboard. Apple states that WLAN is unused when using RJ45 network, but appleTV seems to appear in the WLAN Router list as WLAN connection .. however I don't need to understand everything if it works again ..
