Problem with HP printer driver

First, apologies for earlier misrepresenting this, in a previous post, as Catalina. It's actually Mojave.

Very abruptly, my MacBook Air running macOS 10.14.6 cannot print to my HP Deskjet 6540 printer. This computer/printer combination has been working flawlessly for years -- until today (the first time in several days I've tried to print). Having just come from the HP support boards, I can tell you that this is happening to many users with a variety of Apple computers and HP printers. Reinstalling the HP driver DOES NOT help. (Said HP driver has NOT been updated recently.) I suggest that Apple seriously consider the possibility that a recent macOS update has caused this problem.

This post from a thread on the HP community support boards APPEARS to have resolved my problem. Caution is advised, of course.

The solution is to download this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:

ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

I too am having sudden issues with an older HP LaserJet 2300 that suddenly stopped working today after years of flawless behavior. Literally worked yesterday.

Print job shows up in queue, says was sent, never arrives and printer shows no sign of receiving job. Can also confirm that reinstalling the driver does not help.

MacOs 10.14.6 (18G6032) - had to previously fresh install Mojave because of (other) issues with latest security / Safari update, so my system likely fairly clean.

Error log shows "Namespace CODESIGNING" as termination reason for print process apparently crashing. Apple should absolutely look at the latest updates, this is ridiculous.
