Ghost folders on HD, in User, and on SSD

Hey all,

I was hoping someone could help me understand why I'm seeing so many ghosted folders within some directories. Do I have a preference selected that exposes these files? I do find it odd that my desktop and documents are ghosted in my User folder. I'm on 10.15.7. Thanks for your help!

Suddenly seeing hidden files I had an issue with a SSD boot drive a month ago. All is working fine after the use of Disk Utility, but suddenly I saw a bunch of what I assumed were hidden files in the first directory. All sub-folders are normal, but when I open the drive I see a dozen 0kb files that I don't recognize, as well as a few preferences files that I don't believe were there. Everything showed up on 12/2/2019 at 9:12am. I tried using a terminal command to hide invisible files, but that doesn't work. Can I delete these without risk?

Storage Fluctuations In User Home Folder I seem to have stumbled upon a strange issue and wasn’t sure if it was cause for alarm. The storage value for my home folder on my 2019 MacBook Pro (SSD) seems to be constantly fluctuating in size. I have a video of the issue which is hosted here: As you can see in the video, there is also a huge differential between the size of the user folder on my most recent Time Machine backup and the folder on my actual SSD. Could this possibly be a SSD issue or is it likely just a bug in macOS. It is not just the user folder either. There are also differentials in some of the other folders TM backs up like Library and System, These differentials are smaller but still present. I am running Big Sur. Any insight or help in understanding and/or resolving this issue is greatly appreciated. [Link Edited by Moderator]

Files and folders have disappeared from desktop. I had six or seven folders, and two or three files, on my desktop. Mail was not responding, and I did a force quit, and then a relaunch; when I restarted my computer everything had disappeared from the desktop except the Macintosh HD and an External drive. I have an iMac, Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019, and am running macOS Ventura Version 13.4.1. the Macintosh HD has 552.39 GB available of 1.03 TB. Any thoughts re what happened to the files and folders that were on the desktop? Did I switch a toggle someplace that made them disappear?

Those .dot file/folders are typically hidden from your view

The 3 key command Shift Command . (Period)

is the key shortcut to hide/unhide the hidden folder
