Measuring person height doesn’t work using Lidar and measure app

This is happening to me too. The measure app keeps saying move closer, or move further away. However, it never measures the height of a person.
I have tried restarting my iPhone and reinstalling the measure app. The lidar sensor works in other apps. It will not measure the height of people though.
I don’t think my lidar sensor is defective, because it works using the 3D scanner app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/3d-scanner-app/id1419913995
When I cover the lidar sensor with my finger, it stops working in that app, and when I uncover it, the lidar sensor works again. Also, in the measure app, I am getting the other features of the lidar sensor like the vertical guidelines and ruler when a get close to a measurement.
This problem seems to be only with the automatic height measuring.
Please create support case with Apple to get their attention. I created a case and it is now associated with an emerging case they already have. It seems to be tied to using restore to set up new phone. I have restored 4 phones to set up new iPhone 12 and all have the same issue.
Rest All is a painful experience
“Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home Screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.”

Ditto for me, as well. I can measure other objects by setting points. But, it doesn’t recognize a person and automatically measure their height. It keeps flashing “Move closer” or “Move further away.”
For those facing this problem, how did you set up your iPhone 12 Pro?
I restored mine from an iPhone 11 Pro iCloud Backup. I am wondering if preforming a full reset and setting up as a new iPhone would help.
Is anyone having this problem and also set up their iPhone 12 Pro as a new phone and did not restore from a backup?
Are you saying just doing a Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings resolves this?
Or, do we need to do Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings and then set up the iPhone again without restoring from iCloud?
Can you verify that you did this on your iPhone 12 Pro and it resolved the issue?
Just go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings resolved the issue for me!
however your wifi passwords, phone settings and Apple Pay will be lost so you will have to reconfigure them again
I can confirm reset all settings worked for me as well. Kinda annoying but at least it probably cleared other bugs that were not obvious.. had to go through Face ID, Apple Pay and even reactivate iMessage again after resetting all settings
Your home screen will stay the same, however, widgets page, wallpaper, and all other settings will reset to factory. So be prepared to spend some time going through all your settings if you’ve been using iPhone for a long time to tailor it back to your preference. Just be sure to not choose the Erase all Contents and Settings as that will erase everything and put the phone back to factory setting with no file.
Absolute shambles this LiDAR sensor is. Doesn’t seem to work / measure height using the standard measure app with the iPhone. Spent and wasted 3 days talking to Apple about this issue to a point where I wanted to try and get another new phone via Applecare..... They expect you to pay £1000 / full value of the iPhone until they recieve your old one back!
luckily I’ve come across this post as I’m not the only one experiencing this issue. My partner also had her 12 pro last night, her phone is doing the exact same thing. It’s definitely a software bug.
Tried resetting my settings and this hasn’t solved anything. I downloaded a 3D scanner app via the App Store as someone said to try, I can confirm that the LiDAR works on that, because as soon as I cover the sensor that app stops scanning.
Please hurry up and sort this apple!
I have a Pacific blue 128GB 12 pro.
my partner has a silver 128GB 12 pro.

For me the trick resetting all settings also worked.
Interestingly Apple did not know about this apparently. They made me exchange my brand new iPhone and let me wait for 2 weeks for a replacement. When I restored again from my backup, I ran into exactly the same issue as I had before. I then reset all settings and it started to work.
This might have worked to reset all settings. But I don’t want to have to set my phone up all over again. I have things the way I want them and resetting will screw up my layout and everything I have set up.
iOS 14.3 has fixed it and it works OCASSIONALLY.
It works for me like once in every 4-5 attempts.
AND the margin of error is extremely HUGE.
I tried it with my wife and it was off by 5 CM, 5CM... give me a break!
This is completely useless.
Good that I didn't upgrade because of LIDAR.
just doing a Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
worked for me
