iPhone 12 yellow screen

i got my 12 pro yesterday, beautiful machine, but i started to notice some lack of color intensity, i've using an Iphone X for 3 years know, so something was off. I put the two side by side, displaying the same foto, exactly same settings, and it's sad, something is wrong with the 12 pro, the colors are sad and dead and "yellowish".

Any ideas ?

Hello Antonio! I found a solution that works for me and would work for you as well! My new iPhone 12 also had the yellow tint to it so I exchanged it at my local apple store and although the new one was better, it still had the tint to it. My solution is to actually change the color tint of the display by going into your settings < accessibility < display & text size < color filters < turn on and select color tint. You can scroll down and adjust the intensity and the hue. I have my intensity slider all the way to the left and my hue is about 80% to the right which adjust the tint to a more natural color. It has satisfied me and I hope it works well for you!

Its so fascinating to me how True Tone on makes the screens and colors normal I.e. true white and blacks, but only when viewed under natural daylight making the screen look exactly like that of my iPhone X with True Tone turned off. From the moment the sun sets it’s a different case, it gets more yellow than with True Tone turned off. This leads me to believe that this can DEFINITELY be fixed with software.

I would say it has to do with a layer of light that is always on but can only be seen on a black background.

That is to say, I would say that the problem of colors being bad is related to the greenish-gray layer that is seen when an image is blacked and the oled screen does not turn off completely.

As this greenish gray layer is always on, I would say that it is the one that creates the greenness of the screen and the yellowish tones on certain occasions.

Removing this gray-green layer that is always on, I would say all problems are solved.

I hope I was able to help with this information :)

Thanks for the information.

The Apple Assistance stated, that "engineers officially recommend to play manually with color filters"? The page says "If you have color blindness or other vision challenges, you can use Color Filters to help you differentiate between colors".

No, I neither have color blindness, nor need help in differentiating colors. There is no spoon, oh sorry, I mean there is no white on the screen. That is the problem. Everything super good with the phone, great device, except one little detail, the display. Period.

The illusion that I see white, when I play with the color filter settings, goes away after few hours. The statement made by the Apple Assistance (as you said) is simple not straight. They just wanted to mute the problem. Nothing new.

One more thought, just to be sure, whether it's a real problem for me. If the screen would show orange, instead of blue, would I accept that the screen is simply "warm"? Would I play around with the filter?

Adding my voice to the noise. Apple fanboy here. I got an iPhone 12 Pro on Day 1 and went to post a photo I had edited on Lightroom on the Mac to IG and noticed it was WAY warmer on my phone. Went crazy and did side-by-side comparisons of older iPhones I have here, my iPad Pro, other Macs, and sure enough, the 12 Pro had a yellow-green color cast.

I made a Genius Bar appointment and compared my screen to the store models. The tint issue was present on all the 12 and 12 Pro models but not on any of the older phones. The genius didn't see what I was seeing and asserted I was being too picky. ...I returned the phone and have been using my X since.

Would love to upgrade to a 12 again but I can't as long as the screen issue persists. I'm a photographer and color is everything. Why spend all the time fussing with white balance and colors if they end up getting viewed on a phone that makes all that effort worth nothing? I'm assuming this is a known issue. It's the only screen in the Apple ecosystem, for at least the last 12 years I've been in it, that hasn't matched all the others.

I can't see anything in the update message suggesting it. I handed in my second 12Pro today because the screen was also yellow on this one. This time I got the store manager to compare it with a display model in the store and he took a picture of the screens and sent it with the phone to Apple. He could also identify that the colours on my sample were warmer more yellow and lacking contrast.

I am getting angry now. It is totally unacceptable that you can walk into a store and compare your sample side by side to a display sample and everyone can see that the screens are not looking the same. Still when I call Apple support they say that they can't see any faults and that a certain variance in colour is expected.

The Apple Chat have put in telephone contact with a technical consultant. By now in the chats assistance they do not do more truoe tone tests etc ... The consultant told me clearly that APPLE IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS WORKING ON IT. Adjusting the colors is a temporary solution that even the technical consultant told me to distort the colors. The only solution is to either return the phone or wait for an update.

I sent back my 12 Pro Max earlier today. It's a great phone but the yellow screen is a massive flaw, specially for a device that costs £1200!

If Apple acknowledge the problem and fix I may buy it again. Otherwise - my iPhone X still works so will continue using that.

I get the feeling it's an oled issue. Aren't many manufacturers of those panels, Apple obviously has a problem with getting them right.

Dec 16, 2020 7:23 PM in response to Mizz-305

What worked for you Mizz-305?

Those settings are meant to offer a screen comparison with another iPhone to assess the level of warmness.

This is what the post above was all about, these settings are not changing the screen warmness in any way!

At this point, this is clearly an issue that most of us have, and I really hope it can be fixed with a software update.

Otherwise, I will need to hurry and replace this iPhone 12 Pro. I can't be spending $1,000 on a phone that is not showing the colors properly. What's the use of it and of an updated camera if the screen is yellow?

As emrego88 said: Apple must recognize this, or at least provide communication on acknowledgment and possibility to fix!

Dec 17, 2020 7:24 AM in response to JohnRadu

Yes, they very much needs to recognise this. I have sent in the second copy of an iPhone12Pro the other day, with it a picture of comparison from the store with a display model. Today I got a notification from the repair shop that they are sending me a new iPhone12Pro. So when it arrives it will be my third copy.

I hope the screen will be better on this one. But as you say, Apple really needs to recognise this. I cannot believe that I have twice been walking into a store to compare my samples with the display samples and with my own eyes clearly been able to see that my samples had yellowish/green/low contrast displays with all settings being the same.

Really, people need to return those samples. It is totally unacceptable. If I get a third one now with a bad display I might annul the deal and look for another phone.
